CVPA Prospective Student Open House

Come spend the day with CVPA! Each fall, meet faculty and current students, learn more about our programs, and hear about our admissions processes. It's a great way to get to know our departments and see first-hand what amazing experiences we have to offer. Please check back soon for information on the next Fall Open House.

Every March, CVPA also has an open house for admitted studentsPlease check back in early 2019 for information.

CVPA Welcome & Admissions Information Session

12:00 - 1:00 PM
deLaski Performing Arts Building, Rm. 3001

Dean Rick Davis will be in attendance to welcome all attendees to campus, and Lauren Wagner, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions, will provide an information session on how to approach the application process as well as share information about academic and scholarship opportunities for prospective students. A brief Q&A will follow. 

Meet the Author: Steve Parke

1:00 - 3:00 PM
Center for the Arts, Concert Hall

Former Mason Theater student Steve Parke shares stories and photographs featured in his book, Picturing Prince, which chronicles his experience as Prince's art director. Following the interview, there will be a book signing at 2:00 PM in the Concert Hall lobby. Books will be available for sale after the event.

This event is free, but does require registration. Please sign up for the event through the Alumni Weekend Registration Form so they can ensure enough space for all attendees. (Don't worry about not being an alum - the event is open to all!)

School of Art Portfolio Review

  • 20-minute sessions either for admissions portfolio review or "unofficial" high school portfolio preparation review.

Computer Game Design Open House

10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Art and Design Building, Rm. 1018

Come meet Game faculty and students to learn more about what our program has to offer. Hear about our curriculum and unique partnerships, and find out what amazing things our students have been able to do in the undergraduate program. Attendees will have to chance to ask questions and see the facilities.

School of Dance Open House Events

The Open House calendar for the School of Dance is different from CVPA’s. Please contact the School of Dance directly (703-993-1114, dance@gmu.edu) to arrange your visit to campus. During your visit on a regular class day, you will have the opportunity to observe class, see a rehearsal of a guest artist work, meet the majors and speak with the Director of the program. You may also arrange an Admissions information session and tour of campus.

Schedule your Audition

Our auditions for admission in Fall 2018 will begin Saturday, October 21. The dance audition includes an information session with faculty and staff, a visit with an admissions officer and refreshments and Q&A with dance majors.

School of Music Audition Preparation Workshop (Strings, Voice, and Piano)

Nervous about upcoming college auditions? Get some expert advice from Mason faculty. Led by Dr. Linda Monson (piano), Professor Patricia Miller (voice), and Professor June Huang (strings), the School of Music invites students to participate in a workshop focused on the process and preparation of audition material for competitions and auditions. Students will work in a master class setting with our outstanding Mason faculty and learn more about the opportunities for study in the School of Music at Mason. 

*This workshop is focused on Strings, Voice, and Piano only. Please visit the School of Music's website for information about future events in other instrumental areas.

Selections from the Mason Players' Production of The Gondoliers by Gilbert and Sullivan

Catch a glimpse of Mason's upcoming production of The Gondoliers. Due to an error of identity when they were young, a gaggle of charming Venetian gondoliers are informed that one of them is the heir to the throne of Barataria. The tribulations of governing and romance are lampooned in this delightful musical theater piece by the masters of comic opera. Then come see the show in full at Mason's Center for the Arts from October 26-28!
