Title: Programming and Engagement Intern

Unit: College of Visual and Performing Arts

Location: Fairfax Campus, with some remote work possible

Dates: Fall 2021

Hours: 10-15 /week (specific days tbd, but predominantly 9-5 EST with some event-based work

to be determined)

Stipend: Unpaid, but can be counted for credit

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at George Mason University seeks a programming and engagement intern for the Fall 2021 semester. This position will work on the CFA’s Great Performances at Mason series and additional outreach projects with the CVPA and Center for the Arts staff, including coordinating visiting artist logistics, assisting with digital events, managing masterclass and residency work, and participating in some student-focused initiatives, with an emphasis on outreach and diversity.

This intern will work directly with the Programming and Engagement Manager on the following:

  • Administrative and onsite support for residencies and masterclasses
  • Collaboration on managing the logistical details of performances including transportation, lodging, day of schedules, and event sheets
  • Assistance with special initiatives, including the Young Alumni Commissioning Project, Reston Town Center, Mason Arts at Old Town Hall, and Mason Arts at Home Digital Programming.
  • Communications about initiatives and performances, including building relationships with on- and off-campus partners
  • Surveying and reporting, learning to use Qualtrics and Excel

Through these projects, the intern will:

  • Organize and progress project timelines, including being the onsite manager of at least one residency and engagement event, and at least one digital event as part of Mason Arts at Home
  • Work with visiting artists and agents, helping solidify performance details
  • Communicate with external artistic partners and internal Mason stakeholders
  • Work to advance CVPA’s commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through special initiatives and longstanding programming
  • Learn a variety of digital event platforms
  • Assist in surveying and analyzing survey data

Qualifications:

Seeking a Programming and Engagement intern who is creative, self-motivated, and adept at managing a variety of simultaneous projects. This intern will provide support to performances and initiatives across the College of Visual and Performing Arts and Center for the Arts programming, and should be comfortable working with individuals from many artistic disciplines. The intern should be ready to engage in work to support diverse voices, and create safe spaces for people of color including students, faculty, staff, and artists. This intern will need to have access to a reliable computer and internet connection.
