With over 25 instrumental and vocal ensembles, students have many performance opportunities at George Mason University. School of Music students and faculty present more than 100 concerts, recitals, master classes, workshops, and seminars each year!

The Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Music degrees prepare majors for professional careers and research in music, for state licensure (certification) to teach vocal/choral or instrumental music in elementary and secondary schools, and for graduate work in music and music literature.
Students have many chances to perform in vocal and instrumental ensembles, and they study with nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are performers, conductors, composers, music theoreticians, historians, and music educators. Many instructors are active professionals, as Mason draws from those appearing on stages in nearby Washington, D.C. The School is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Part One
Apply to George Mason University through the Common Application or visit the admissions website for more information. You may apply for an audition simultaneously with applying to the university.
Part Two
Register for a School of Music Audition on Slideroom. Details for your audition (time, location, etc.) will be sent by email approximately two weeks prior to the audition.
Please note the following important deadlines:
- All freshman early action CVPA portfolio materials must be submitted or an audition scheduled by November 7.
- All freshman regular decision CVPA portfolio materials must be submitted or an audition scheduled by February 7.
For transfer students with applied-music credits they wish to transfer, the audition will determine how many of those credits may be used towards the Mason applied music requirement. (Disallowed credits, i.e., credits that the audition committee does not accept in fulfillment of the Mason applied music requirement, may be used as electives.)

The Music, Bachelor of Arts degree offers three concentrations:

Music, BM
Applicants to the Bachelor of Music in Music degree programs must complete either an instrumental or vocal audition according to the guidelines for the desired concentration. The Bachelor of Music degree offers five concentrations:
- Performance (Vocal, Instrumental, Percussion)
- Jazz Studies
- Composition
- Music Education, and
- Music Technology.
