Dr. Kathleen Mulcahy currently performs as clarinet and bass clarinet with the National Symphony Orchestra. She has held positions with the Annapolis, Buffalo, and Grant Park Orchestras and has been a regular guest with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and Richmond and Roanoke Symphonies. She is also principal clarinetist with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded on the Naxos, Cedille, D’Note, and Summit labels with Buffalo, Grant Park, and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
As an active chamber musician and recitalist, Dr. Mulcahy has appeared in venues such as Millennium Stage, the Lyceum, and many churches and chamber music series throughout the area. She has also been a featured soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Annapolis Symphony, and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Mulcahy is a past winner of the ICA Concerto Competition and as a student won the concerto competitions at the Eastman School of Music and the Ohio State University.
Previously, Dr. Mulcahy served as a clarinet instructor at the State University of New York at Fredonia and has been an active clinician in the Western New York and Northern Virginia regions. Dr. Mulcahy holds the DMA and BM degrees from The Ohio State University and the MM degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. Her principal teachers have included James Pyne, Peter Hadcock, and Kenneth Grant. Kathleen Mulcahy is a Buffet Group USA performing artist.
