Biography

Violinist Elizabeth Adams has performed as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Russia. She holds both master’s and undergraduate degrees from Yale, where she was assistant to Ani Kavafian and served as concertmaster of the Yale Philharmonia. As an undergraduate, she had the opportunity to study violin and Russian language in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Elizabeth has studied chamber music with members of the Borodin and Tokyo String Quartets. In addition, she has participated in summer festivals such as Meadowmount, Orfeo, Schlern, and Soesterberg as both a violinist and pianist. As an orchestral musician, she has played under the baton of Neville Marriner, Lorin Maazel, Peter Oundjian, Kent Nagano, Leonard Slatkin, and others.

Elizabeth recently completed a doctorate in violin with Vladimir Landsman at the Université de Montréal. She has been active with various ensembles in the Montreal and Quebec music scene such as the Orchestre de la francophonie and la Sinfonia de Launaudière as well as with the Vermont Symphony and ME2/Strings. She joined the faculty of the McGill Conservatory of music in 2009.

Elizabeth became interested in pedagogy while she was teaching in an underprivileged public school and at Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, CT. As a teacher Elizabeth has studied extensively in both Russia and North America and is particularly interested in national schools of teaching. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the great Soviet pedagogue Yuri Yankelevich and the renowned teacher Ivan Galamian.
