Music, Minor

The Mason School of Music is part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Students study with nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are active performers, conductors, composers, music theoreticians, historians, and music teachers. Admission is based on acceptance to the university and audition. The music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Students pursuing a minor in music must also pass a music audition. Required classes include Introduction to Classical Music, Aural Skills, and Keyboard Skills.

Program Requirements

Minors must be completed in conjunction with a bachelor’s degree.  Please see the University Catalog for complete information on program requirements and policies.  Additional specifications may apply.

All students pursuing a music minor must pass a music audition. Students in the keyboard area use the Keyboard Skills I credit as a music elective.

Music minors at Mason work with world-class faculty who perform regularly in renowned venues with acclaimed ensembles. Music students also study and perform in beautiful spaces outfitted with up to date technology. Mason School of Music is an all-Steinway school. Performance opportunities are available for all musicians at Mason in more than 20 ensembles.
