Visual art students exhibit individual pieces or have small shows devoted to a body of their work in several spaces around the university. Student filmmakers screen their works in Mason's campus theater. Students, faculty, and arts lovers from the public are invited in to see your work. No matter your medium, your artistic vision is front and center.
Art and Design Building
Headquarters for Mason’s School of Art, the Art and Design Building is one of the campus’s most vibrant places, making it a must-see destination. This award-winning building was designed to showcase art, whether in the wide hallways, spacious studios, or large, open, multi-story space. Downstairs, video screenings and a book exchange happen in a casual student gathering place.
Art Where You Are
Exhibitions of contemporary art on campus offer an array of stimulating and challenging opportunities to learn and think about the world. Seeing art in your daily environment enhances your learning experience, opening new horizons for personal growth. Public sculptures and works from the University Art Collection are on display across campus, and most buildings offer art spaces featuring a lively schedule of exhibitions, gallery talks, screenings, and installations.

Exhibition Spaces for Student Work
Gillespie Gallery of Art
The Gillespie Gallery of Art, inside the Art & Design Building, is a 2000-square-foot, museum-quality gallery featuring an ever-changing program of major shows, as well as featured exhibitions for graduate theses and senior group exhibitions.
Hallway Galleries, Art and Design Building
Throughout the award-winning Art and Design Building, on the Fairfax campus, hallway galleries are crowded with student and faculty artwork, featuring impromptu installations.
Sculpture Yard
The Sculpture Yard, an outdoor workspace adjacent to the Art and Design building and Sculpture Studio, is a popular gathering space where large-scale pieces are created continuously by art students.
Buchanan Hall Atrium Gallery
Inside Buchanan Hall on the Fairfax campus, students can display their art work to be viewed by passing faculty, staff and visitors.
Fenwick Gallery
Located in the ground level lobby of Fenwick Library on the Fairfax campus, this space features artwork focused on book arts and collaborative projects exploring the relationship between text and image organized by faculty, students, and alumni.
Green Studio
This outdoor laboratory adjacent to the Art and Design building on the Fairfax campus features Virginia-native medicinal and edible plants. It is a space for environmental art and sustainability projects generated by students and visiting professional artists.
Johnson Center Cinema
Film students screen their work in the theater located in the heart of campus. Visiting filmmakers also screen their productions and hold conversations with students throughout the year.
Mason Exhibitions
This storefront gallery is located three blocks west of the Mason Square campus in Arlington and features high-profile exhibitions from internationally recognized visual artists and curators, and occasionally students.
Founders Hall Gallery
Founders Hall Gallery, located in Van Metre Hall on the Mason Square campus in Arlington, showcases the University's Art Collection as well as other visiting artist exhibitions and Mason student work.
