Get ready to be entertained in this Mason Student Performances production, featuring talented vocalists from George Mason University’s Mason School of Theater. This winter, Mason Cabaret Presents Over the Rainbow: The Music of Judy, Ella, and Barbra (2/2) takes the stage in the Gregory Family Theater. The performance will also take place at Harris Theatre in Fairfax, VA (1/26 and 1/27).

“This year the School of Theater decided to focus their season on women playwrights and composers,” the program’s Director, James Gardiner, shared. “Last year, our cabaret was centered on the incredible women composers of Broadway, so we were looking for another opportunity to center female voices. At one point over the last few years our Music Director Joe Walsh suggested the idea of a cabaret focused on the music of Judy Garland. [Co-director] Erin [Gardiner] and I thought it would be great to expand that idea and highlight three of the greatest performers of the 20th century: Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, and Barbra Streisand.”

Gardiner continued, “From the American Songbook classics of Ella Fitzgerald to the Hollywood hits of Judy Garland to the disco beats of Barbra Streisand, we can't wait to share a taste of their eclectic catalogues. This year's cabaret will feature ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ ‘The Way We Were,’ ‘Mack the Knife,’ and so many more popular hits!”

Help celebrate the 12th year of Mason Cabaret, and bring the entire family out for this inspiring evening of musical favorites in February.
