Visual art students exhibit individual pieces or have small shows devoted to a body of their work in several spaces around the university. Student filmmakers screen their works in Mason's campus theater. Students, faculty, and arts lovers from the public are invited in to see your work. No matter your medium, your artistic vision is front and center.
Art and Design Building
Headquarters for Mason’s School of Art, the Art and Design Building is one of the campus’s most vibrant places, making it a must-see destination. This award-winning building was designed to showcase art, whether in the wide hallways, spacious studios, or large, open, multi-story space. Downstairs, video screenings and a book exchange happen in a casual student gathering place.
Art Where You Are
Exhibitions of contemporary art on campus offer an array of stimulating and challenging opportunities to learn and think about the world. Seeing art in your daily environment enhances your learning experience, opening new horizons for personal growth. Public sculptures and works from the University Art Collection are on display across campus, and most buildings offer art spaces featuring a lively schedule of exhibitions, gallery talks, screenings, and installations.

Exhibition Spaces for Student Work
Gillespie Gallery of Art
The Gillespie Gallery of Art, formerly known as the Fine Arts Gallery, is a 2000-square-foot, museum-quality gallery features an ever-changing program of major shows, as well as graduate thesis exhibitions.
Hallway Galleries
Throughout the Art and Design Building, Hallway Galleries are crowded with student and faculty artwork, featuring impromptu installations.
Art Where You Are
Students exhibit their artwork for fellow students and faculty to experience. This award-winning building was designed to showcase art, whether in the wide hallways, spacious studios, or large, open, multi-story space. Downstairs, video screenings and a book exchange occur in a casual student-gathering place.
Sculpture Yard
Mason's outdoor space is not only beautiful, it's also full of art. Sculpture Yard is an outdoor workspace adjacent to the Sculpture Studio, where large-scale pieces are created continuously.
Container Space
Students adapted a shipping container behind the Art and Design Building into an off-the-grid exhibition space, solar-powered and floored with recycled wood.
Floating Lab Collective
This evolving group of artists and activists develop community-driven public art projects. Their mobile museum, a refitted step van, hosts installations, projections, even a mobile radio station. More information on the Floating Lab Collective.
Johnson Center Cinema
Film students screen their work in the theater located in the heart of campus. Visiting filmmakers also screen their productions and hold conversations with students throughout the year.
Buchanan Partners Art Gallery
Gallery space in the Hylton Performing Arts Center is open to the public throughout the year and displays works by School of Art faculty as well as regional artists.
